Art Video of the Week - Good Greys

This week, Dianne Mize takes us through the process of mixing greys through the use of complimentary colours. In particular, she talks through the use of primary/secondary compliments as the main choices for mixing to neutral. Tertiary colours will tend to pull in more of one of the primaries, thus bending the neutral towards the greater primary.



The other piece of the puzzle she talks about is where the complementary colours bend on the wheel. In her example, dioxazine purple and hansa yellow don't mix to a neutral without adding some blue. Why? The purple has too much red, and so you need to balance the purple back towards the middle of the violet spectrum.
